To bury a king
To bury a king
Send expeditions of adventurers to search for the long lost Valley of Kings. A kind of RPG roguelike where you sacrifice teams trying to carve a path into wild and dangerous territories.
Special thanks to Lucas, SirWombat and Pleistogames for the playtesting and helpful feedbacks.
Game was updated since game jam to include:
- resolution fixes
- UI and QoL fixes
- new or additional assets
- another dragon
Controls:

Used assets:
Locations icon maps taken from Kenney's map pack were used during the jam but were replaced.

I managed to get rid of the vines in the west and east forests, but my expeditions still die there without leaving a message explaining why.
Thank you for your feedback. The death reason is specified only if you don't have enough food. But this is probably a bad idea. I'll add the cause of death in other cases tomorrow before the ens of the jal. Dying in the forest means you probably sent teams that don't have enough Fight Power to pass the forest normally. Remocing the vines doesn't remove the strength check.
With this information, I managed to finish the game! It was a fun game, I'll give it a good rating in the game jam when voting opens.
There were a lot of typos, but not so many that it was hard to understand what was being said. I get that in a game jam, actually making the game work is a higher priority than having a perfect script.
The main criticism I have is that the rules aren't explained very well. In particular, I didn't realize until I saw your comment that the same skills can stack, and that you need a certain level of some skills to pass some areas (fight power, knowledge for the druids, holy power for the vampire). This should be an easy fix with just a few tweaks to the dialogue, though; if, as you said, the cause of death is made clearer, that would help get this across.
Also, this is just a nitpick, but I don't understand why it's described as a roguelike. I get that it's a very loosely-defined term, but the key defining element of the genre is randomness, whether in terms of level layouts or upgrade selection. I'd categorize this more as a puzzle game instead.
I know that looks like a lot of negativity, but they're really minor issues; just polishing up the writing would make this go from good to great. I truly had a fun time figuring out how to get past each area.
Thank you again for these precious feedbacks. It's really constructive. The level of information is key and thanks to you I understood that some things that I thought were intuitive were actually unclear.
You're also right about the type. i hesitated categorizing it as a puzzle but I didn't to give to many tags. I taggued it as roguelike because of the permanent death od adevnturers and the fact that you get knowledge and items for your future expeditions to go further. But since it's not really your adventurers that progess it's a bit awkward. I'll change it.
Thanks again for all the feedbacks. I'm sorry I cannot try your game until a few hours from the end of the jam, I don't have access to anything able to run a game right now but I'll definitely credit you for the help.
Okay, so I misunderstood how this works. I didn't realize I could only rate games if I participated in the jam.
Yes I thoughts you were part of the jam. Turns out you're just randomly trying games and giving feedbacks and you happened to find my games. The voting restriction probably depends on each jam.
Thanks a lot for doing that though, it's nice to have someone care about what I was trying to do. You made my game a better game and though probably nothing will come out of this one. Thanks again.
